Demand for pesticides in 2011 will be higher than in previous years

With the temperature rising, the control of pests and diseases in crops has become an urgent task for agriculture. The reporter learned from the National Crop Diseases and Pests Monitoring Network and Plant Protection Stations throughout the country that the occurrence of major crop pests and diseases this year will be significantly heavier than the previous year, and that the area of various types of pests and diseases is expected to exceed 6 billion mu, and the tasks and difficulties of prevention and control will exceed those of the normal years. It is widely expected in the industry that the demand for pesticides in 2011 will be higher than in previous years and is expected to exceed 57 billion yuan.

Spring is a high incidence of crop pests and diseases. According to the forecast of the National Climate Center, the temperature in most parts of China this spring is generally high, and the precipitation is less, which is conducive to the occurrence of pests and diseases such as wheat spiders and aphids. It is expected that as the temperature rises, the area where various pests and diseases occur will rapidly expand, and the task and difficulty of prevention and control will exceed those of normal years. At present, pests and diseases such as wheat spiders and aphids have been aggravated from north to south in various wheat areas. Among them, wheat spiders, aphids, and sheath blight have emerged in Huanghuai, Jianghuai, and North China wheat regions. The damage period is about 10 days ahead of schedule. The area of locust occurrence has increased by 2.4 times year-on-year, and the number of maggots in Weihai, Shandong is 100 times that of the normal year. This has aroused great concern among plant protection agencies throughout the country.

The reporter recently learned that the major producing areas of various agricultural crops have increased the procurement of pesticides to prevent and control pests and diseases. In this regard, Hongyuan Securities believes that according to the results of monitoring of crop pests and diseases by various departments, the increase in demand for pesticides this year will increase substantially. A pesticide company executive said that it expects the demand for pesticides to increase slightly and the demand for fungicides and herbicides to increase. Zhang Yanqiu, director of the Ministry of Agriculture's pesticide inspection institute, said that with limited arable land, pesticides can prevent crop pests and diseases and ensure the harvest of agricultural products. As food demand grows, the rigid demand for pesticides will continue to grow.

In the just-needed and pest-control demand, the growth of pesticide demand in China is difficult to change. Industry sources said that in 2011 it is expected to maintain double-digit growth, that is, China's pesticide sales revenue will exceed 57 billion yuan. According to statistics, in 2010, the cumulative sales of pesticide products in China reached 51.82 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 20.8%. Among them, the cumulative sales of chemical pesticides and biopesticides were 45.63 billion yuan and 6.2 billion yuan, respectively, an increase of 19.9% and 27.6% year-on-year respectively. Bio-pesticides accounted for approximately 12.0% of sales, up only 0.7% year-on-year.
