Netherlands will use a ratio for clean energy regulations

The Dutch government has issued a communique a few days ago that it will set a ratio of clean energy use from 2015 onwards, that is, it requires that all clean energy provided by the energy companies must reach a certain proportion, but the specific proportion has not yet been specified.

The Dutch government believes that this provision will help the country to achieve 14% of its energy consumption by 2020 from the goal of renewable energy. At present, the proportion of renewable energy in the Netherlands is only 4% of the energy consumption structure.

The proportion of clean energy use was proposed on the basis of the “green agreement” signed between the Dutch government and the energy industry. According to the "Green Agreement", in the next few years, the Dutch government will gradually stop subsidies for renewable energy to promote the free competition and development of renewable energy in the market mechanism.

Dutch energy companies have different reactions to the regulations on clean energy use. Some companies that are relatively easy to meet their targets on schedule are welcome, while others that need to buy clean energy to meet government requirements are critical. A spokesman for Eneco, a Dutch energy company, told the media: “We are disappointed by the mandatory ratio of clean energy for energy suppliers. We are very worried that our profits will be greatly affected in the future.”
