The 2nd International Conference on Intelligent Materials and Nanotechnology ended on July 11th at the Harbin Institute of Technology Weihai Campus. The chairman of the conference, Professor Rong Jinsong of our school presided over the closing ceremony. At the closing ceremony, Professor Du Shanyi, honorary chairman of the conference, chairman of the China Composite Materials Society, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, presented awards to the award-winning outstanding student paper authors.

The conference is the largest international conference on smart materials and nanotechnology held by the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) in Asia, from the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Spain and China. More than 300 experts and scholars from 29 countries and regions attended the conference, including more than 100 foreign scholars. The American Natural Science Foundation Committee specially sent a delegation represented by Professor Zhang Jianping, Director of the Department of Mechanics and Materials, to participate in the event. During the conference, Professor Zhang Jianping, Professor Alison Fulato of the University of Maryland, Professor Han Jinkun of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Academician Ou Jinping of Dalian University of Technology, Professor Wang Zhonglin of the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Ibaraki, Japan Professor Wu Zhishen (transliteration), Professor Evrahan Garcia of Cornell University, and other well-known experts were invited to give a report on the conference on smart materials and nanotechnology.

The conference has a total of 61 sub-conferences and more than 280 special lectures on the latest research progress of smart materials and nanotechnology and its application in various fields, including shape memory alloys and polymers, electroactive polymers, and pressure. Electrical materials, electrical (magnetic) rheological materials, electrical (magnetic) telescopic materials, MEMS sensors, material structure damage assessment, fiber reinforced composites, nanocomposites, fiber optic sensors and their applications, structural health monitoring, deformability Bionic structure, and its applications in aerospace, machinery, construction, robotics, medicine and other fields. The conference article will be published by the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) and will be included in the full text of EI. Some excellent articles will also be in Composite Materials Science and Technology, Smart Materials and Structures, Optics and Laser Engineering, and Smart and Nanomaterials International. International magazines such as magazines are published in special publications.

This conference promoted the exchange of intelligent materials and nanotechnology at home and abroad, and built a good communication platform for domestic and foreign scholars in this field. The academic atmosphere of the conference was strong, and the participants' reports represented the latest developments in this field at home and abroad, broadening the horizons of the participants. The 3rd International Conference on Intelligent Materials and Nanotechnology (SMN 2011) was scheduled to be held in Shenzhen in December 2011 after discussion and decision by the Organizing Committee.

Welded Gabion Box (baskets), also known as welded stone cage, are made of Welded Wire Mesh panel. Welded gabion baskets can be connected with other similar containers and filled with stone to form flexible and permeable structures for retaining of riverbank and soils. This kind of wire mesh containers are uniformly welded and can be supplied of various sizes.

Characteristics
(1) Economic:just fill the stone into the Gabions and seal it
(2) Simple installation: no special technology needed
(3) Weather proof under natural destroy, corrosion resistant
(4) No collapse even under big scope of deforming
(5) Sludge in the stones is good for plant growing
(6) Good permeation can prevent the damage by hydrostatic
(7) Less transport freight. It can be folded together for transport and further installation

Finishing

Ÿ(1) Heavily galvanized

Ÿ(2) Galfan coated (95% zinc + 5% aluminium)
