New technology promotes the cost of polysilicon to fall out of the predicament

On October 18, the reporter learned from the GCL-Poly Group that the pilot project for the production of polysilicon by the silane fluidized bed method has produced high-purity products, filling the domestic gap. This new technology can reduce the purity of polysilicon, while reducing the cost of the Siemens method by more than half. Zhu Gongshan, chairman of the China Photovoltaic Industry Alliance, said that as the main raw material for photovoltaic cells, the cost of polysilicon has a significant impact on the price of photovoltaic power generation. The preparation of polysilicon from silane fluidized bed is an important progress in China's technological innovation to cope with the current PV crisis, and will accelerate the realization of “free price” of photovoltaic power generation. In addition, since the beginning of this year, the polysilicon produced by the modified Siemens method in the EU, the United States, and South Korea has been dumped at a low price in the Chinese market. The CIF price has dropped to about US$18/kg, which is significantly lower than the normal production cost. The successful pilot test of preparing polysilicon in silane fluidized bed in China is a turning point for the industry to get out of the "cost inversion" predicament.
