Zhao Zhenye, who is 78 years old, has a clear mind and a clear idea. He mentioned heat treatment and surface modification. He said with passion: "Material powers and machinery manufacturing powers are an important part of the Chinese dream. China has already reached a turning point in the fate of relations. It is urgent to explore a way to strengthen the country and upgrade the transformation process.” He introduced that the world's machinery manufacturing technology has developed three generations: “forming” manufacturing, surface integrity manufacturing and anti-fatigue manufacturing. Surface integrity manufacturing has created a monopoly of key component manufacturing powers and high-end machinery and equipment manufacturing in the US and Western developed countries. China has long been stuck in “formed” manufacturing, resulting in three problems of insufficient application of advanced materials and short life spans, poor reliability and heavy structure of key components, which affects the fact that China's machinery manufacturing industry cannot upgrade today. Anti-fatigue manufacturing is a new generation of advanced technology, an innovation in China.

Zhao Zhenye said that machinery manufacturing is the foundation and pillar of industrialization. High-end mechanical equipment is the leader of the machinery manufacturing industry. It is full of many scientific frontiers and high-tech inheritance. It is at the high end of the industrial chain and value chain and occupies the core position of the manufacturing industry. Anti-fatigue manufacturing is the only way to reach the manufacture of high-end mechanical equipment.

Zhao Lao said that a large number of catastrophic accidents indicate that key components are often the culprit of mechanical equipment failure. Zhao Zhenye said that key components are in service under extreme dynamics. The main failure mode is fatigue, often fatigue failure in advance, and more than 90% of fatigue failures originate from “forming” manufacturing. It is no exaggeration to say that if we do not solve the "three major problems" of key components, we will not be able to become a machine manufacturing powerhouse if we do not eliminate "formed" manufacturing China. Therefore, China's machinery manufacturing needs to clarify what is core technology, what to innovate, where to start and how to achieve innovation. The answer is yes: starting with long-life key components, innovative anti-fatigue manufacturing technology. Heat treatment and surface modification belong to the national core technology, which is the fundamental way out for the material power and machinery manufacturing power and the first demand for upgrading and transformation.

Zhao Zhenye emphasized that, unlike other technologies such as blanking and cutting, heat treatment and surface modification are the "internal science" of mechanical manufacturing, and the performance of advanced materials and key components is neither mountain nor water. Thus, although they are many times higher than other technologies in the economically affordable value chain of key components and mechanical equipment, they are not recognized; they are marginalized despite the ultimate performance of materials and the ultimate service performance of key components. Subsidiaryization is excluded from the key technologies of national science and technology development planning and cannot be supported by key research.
