Key breakthroughs in key technologies for low porosity and low permeability reservoirs in China

Perforation is the “one step” for oil and gas exploration and development. If the channel is not smooth, it will be difficult to produce oil or gas and it will not reflect the actual oil and gas production of the formation. The reporter learned in an interview recently that China's self-developed after-effect perforating technology has been applied to 2,600 wells in 22 oilfields throughout the country, and the stimulation of oil wells is gratifying.

Lu Dawei, director of the Petroleum Logging Professional Committee of the China Petroleum Institute, said that in China's newly discovered proven oil and gas reserves, more than 70% of oil reserves and more than 90% of natural gas reserves are low-porosity and low-permeability oil and gas reserves, and the proportion is still increasing year by year.

The technical team led by Tian Zhibo, chief scientist of Xi'an Ao Xing Energy Technology Co., Ltd., after more than 10 years of research and experiment, creatively proposed the safe and reliable technical concept of intracavity work and invented the “aftereffect” device: namely, the traditional perforating bullets. On the warhead, using the metal jet generated by the shaped charge, the high-energy “reactive particle” is dragged into the hole to achieve explosion within the second hole. The explosion energy generated by the particles in the perforation tunnel can effectively relieve the perforation tunnel compaction zone, clear the pollution of the oil perforation tunnel, and enhance the communication ability of the perforation tunnel and the natural cracks in the formation.

It is understood that this technology has been applied for 2600 wells in many oilfields across the country. Among them, oil and gas wells with a yield increase of 5 to 10 times account for 10% to 15%, and those with an increase in production rate of more than 300% account for 15% to 20%. Wells with an increase in production of more than 30% account for 60% to 70%, especially For low-porosity and low-permeability oil and gas reservoirs, the effect of increasing production is very obvious. Previously, after the Bohai Sea exploration wells were drilled using “aftereffect technology”, comparative analysis revealed that the oil production index increased by 22%.

Wang Xuguang, the director of the China Blasting Industry Association and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, believes that the results of the “aftereffect technology” have been pioneered at home and abroad and can meet the needs of China’s oil and energy extraction market. This technology has outstanding safety performance, and is green and effective. Raising the output of single wells is of great significance for improving the productivity of low-permeability and ultra-low porosity and permeability reservoirs.
