Heavy metal filter won the Stockholm Junior Water Prize at the World Water Week Forum

Xinhua News Agency, Stockholm, August 25 (Reporter and Miao), an American student won the 2015 Stockholm Junior Water Prize at the World Water Week Forum on the 25th for inventing a filter to remove heavy metals from electronic waste in the water. The Queen of Sweden, Victoria, presented the award.

The press release issued by the World Water Week forum said that the rapid development of science and technology has caused more and more electronic waste in the water, which often contains toxic heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium and lead. The winner, Perry Alegapan, invented a thin carbon nanotube to absorb these toxic heavy metals in the water. Such nanotubes can be reused and the heavy metals that are aspirated can be reused in electrical appliance manufacturing.

The jury said that the filter invented by Alegapan can filter out 99% of the heavy metals in drinking water and industrial water, and is an innovative technology for water treatment. Heavy metal treatment is a key issue affecting global water resources, and the scope of the invention of Alegapan is expected to expand from household to industrial scale water treatment.

Alegapan said that when he returned to India to visit his grandparents a few years ago, he saw that electronic waste caused serious pollution to the environment. At that time, he became interested in the field of water purification. He will use his invention as an open technical resource. "There will be more people to understand and use this as a basis for more research to help solve the bigger problems facing water resources."

The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is one of the awards presented by the World Water Week Forum to stimulate young people's interest in water resources and environmental protection, and to encourage young people to invent and improve the rational use of water resources.

Spiral Tap is more suitable for machining blind hole threads, and the chips are backwards during machining. Due to the helix angle, the actual cutting front angle of the tap increases as the helix angle increases. According to experience, the helix angle of the processed ferrous metal is selected to be smaller, generally around 30 degrees, to ensure the strength of the helical teeth. When processing non-ferrous metals, the helix angle is chosen to be a little larger, and it can be cut at about 45 degrees.
